Work can become complicated, particularly when you are responsible for other people, making important decisions or trying to manage the expectations of those around you. Sometimes it’s difficult to know what is actually causing the problem when you are in the middle of it.
Experienced coach
Alex is currently undertaking a Master’s in Executive Coaching with Erik de Haan, alongside his work as a therapist and supervisor. He has spent the last ten years working with people through difficult situations and relationships, and he brings that experience into his executive coaching work.
He also grew up around a family business and has seen some of the pressures that can come with working with family, taking responsibility and making decisions that affect other people. These things can be difficult to separate from the person, and it can be useful to have someone outside of the situation to talk them through.
Coaching can be helpful for a number of reasons. Sometimes you need to make a particular decision; sometimes a relationship at work has become difficult; and sometimes you feel something isn’t quite right.
How executive coaching works
Alex is not there to tell you what to do. He wants to help you understand what is happening and what you might want to do about it. This can include looking at relationships, leadership, patterns of behaviour and how you respond to the people and situations around you.
Alex often uses walking as part of his coaching sessions. Being outside can make the conversation feel less formal, and some people find they can think more clearly when they are moving rather than sitting in an office.
There is no set way that coaching needs to work. it will depend on you, what you are dealing with and what you want from the sessions.
